Differences between the Jeep Gladiator 4xe and the Gas-Powered Gladiator
The primary difference between the Gladiator 4xe and the proven gas-powered Gladiator is the plug-in hybrid powertrain. While details haven't been announced it's reported that the plug-in hybrid powertrain will be virtually the same as the one on the Wrangler 4xe. If that's the case, the 4xe will combine a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a pair of electric motors, creating a significant amount of horsepower and torque for Rochester and Knox IN owners.
Powertrain and Performance
The plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Gladiator 4xe will consist of a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that delivers 270 horsepower and 279 pound-feet of torque, connected to two electric motors. One motor generator is designed to take the place of the alternator, contributing 44 horsepower and 39 pound-feet of torque. The second, larger motor will create 134 horsepower and be mounted to the transmission.
A 14.0-kilowatt battery is another potential component and the combined result should be 375 horsepower along with 470 pound-feet of torque. The Gladiator 4xe's acceleration hasn't been announced but a similar four-door Wrangler 4xe can hit 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. Logansport buyers can safely assume that the Gladiator 4xe will probably perform in that same range. At lease one source indicates that the Gladiator 4xe will be equipped with a 14.0-killowatt battery that will give you 21 miles of electric-only range.
Exterior highlights
The memorable, hard-hitting exterior design of the Gladiator should be the same with the new 2015 4xe although reports indicate that it will have the same optional badging, blue tow hooks, and other accents that you see in other 4xe models like the Wrangler. The new Gladiator 4xe is expected to have the same classic features fas the gasoline-powered Gladiator like the seven-slot grille, removable roof panels and doors, solid front and rear axles and a capable five-foot bed.
Interior highlights
Our sources tell us that the Gladiator 4xe should have an upright dashboard similar to the Jeep Wrangler and it will also have special off-road features like waterproof push-button start. Available convenience features like heated front seats and a heated steering wheel should also be upgrades you can select. The stretched wheelbase on the Gladiator 4xe will reportedly give you more back seat legroom than you'd find in the four-door Wrangler. The interior will have several places where Northern Indiana owners can stash a smartphone. Another great off-road feature in the new Wrangler 4xe is that the seats can be stored and locked down securely when you're planning to drive over really tough terrain.
